This ship was built as an homage to the Agro ships from the '78 Battlestar Galactica which themselves were miniatures used on John Dykstra's previous film, "Silent Running". Although the original is damn cool, it was felt more domes where needed and a more compact shape for the reboot.
Fun Fact! Although only one of these ships appears in the civilian fleet, you can see a couple of these ships stripped of the domes in certain shots.
